ARM + HAND

Description:

Muscles in the shoulder area include the trapezius anterior and the serratus anterior. In the forearm attached to the humerus are the triceps (which is an extensor), biceps, brachialis, and brachioradialis (all three of which are flexors). Other muscles in the arm include the pectoralis major, latissimus dorsi, deltoids, and rotator cuffs. In the forearm, there are muscles that control the wrist and fingers. The anterior side contains flexors, while the posterior side has extensors.

Diseases and Conditions

Carpal tunnel syndrome

Wrist pain caused by repetitive use and swells the tendons. It can lead to pain in the thumb and numbness in the finger.

Torn rotator cuff

  • Injury caused by overuse (tendinitis), inflammation of fluid sacs called bursa (bursitis), and overstretching (strains). It can lead to difficulty rotating the arm, and applying ice or heat can reduce the effects of this.
