LIVER

Description:

The liver is located underneath the diaphragm and above the stomach. It is separated into two main lobes, each with smaller lobules that carry blood toward the common hepatic duct. It takes blood from the hepatic artery and vein and they are filtered. The liver is composed of hepatocytes which help to store and eliminate nutrients and wastes as needed. Additionally, the liver secretes bile to emulsify fats and is stored in the gallbladder. More functions of the liver include metabolizing down alcohol, breaking down proteins (creating ammonia which becomes urea), store glycogen, and create protein for blood clots.
