HAIR

Description:

Part of the skin that helps to protect the body from UV rays and insulates the body. A single strand of hair contains the follicle, root, and shaft. The follicle originates in the dermis with the hair root, and as it protrudes out the skin, the visible part is known as the hair shaft. From the outside in, the three layers of hair are the cuticle (made of keratinocytes), cortex, and sometimes the medulla. Hair is located everywhere on the skin except the palms, the bottom of our feet, lips, and certain reproductive parts.

Pediculosis Capitis

Also known as head lice, a louse insect may lay its nits, or eggs, on the hair shaft on the scalp, and as they develop, they lead to an itchy scalp.

 Folliculitis

Inflammation of the follicles due to irritation from friction, injuries, or bacteria.
