LYMPH NODE

Description:
 

This is a small organ located around the body whose job is to filter lymph for the blood. Within them are lymph nodules, which are composed of lymphocytes and are separated with sinuses. The job of the organs when the body is exposed to possible infections is to send lymphocytes that are created in the bone marrow and thymus and send them to the site of infection.

Diseases and Conditions

Edema

The swelling of limbs due to fluid collection of lymph. It is caused by the blocking of a lymphatic channel. Also known as lymphedema, a primary lymphedema is genetic while secondary is acquired. 

Lymphadenopathy

Swelling due to infections such as abscess or viruses like HIV. The skin may become tender and painful.
