LARGE INTESTINE

Description:

After nutrients are taken in the small intestine, the remaining waste enters the large intestine (also known as the colon) via the cecum, travels through the transverse and descending colon, and connects to the rectum via the sigmoid colon. Its muscular lining is similar to that of the small intestine. However, unlike its longer counterpart, the large intestine does not have any method of absorbing nutrients such as villi. Instead, its main function is to absorb water from the remaining wastes, producing stool.
