ADRENAL

Description:

There are two adrenal glands located on top of the two kidneys, each with a cortex and a medulla. It is managed by the hypothalamus. The Cortex, which makes cortical hormones, are all steroids. These include mineralocorticoids which secrete aldosterone for sodium conservation, glucocorticoids which secrete cortisol to increase glucose levels in the bloodstream, and gonadocorticoids like androgens and estrogen. In the adrenal medulla, epinephrine/adrenaline triggers the fight-or-flight response, while norepinephrine manages blood pressure and stress.
